Salerno and the Campania region
Castello d’Arechi
This medieval castle rises 300 metres above sea level. It is an important historical site from which you can admire a unique panorama across the bay.
Cathedral of Salerno
Characterised in Romanic style, the cathedral was built between 1080 and 1085. Most impressive is the majestic Arab-Norman bell tower, 52 metres high and known as one of the icons of the city. Inside the crypt you can find the remains of Saint Matthew and Saint Matyrs from Salerno.
Gardens of Minerva
These are ancient botanical gardens established in the XII century thanks to the Silvatico family. Presently there are 277 species of plants. They are located in the higher area of the historical centre from where it is possible to admire the city from an exceptional view point.
Verdi Theatre
It opened in 1872 with the “Rigoletto di Giuseppe Verdi”. It has four levels of stands and a gallery. The theater philharmonic orchestra has always been entrusted to prestigious directions, among others, those of Daniel Oren, Donato Renzetti, David Garforth.
Villa Comunale
Here you will find peace and quiet and a chance to relax amongst the trees and bushes in the historic garden of the city. In the park you will see the fountain of Tullio and the statues of two patriots, Giovanni Nicotera in bronze and Carlo Pisacane in marble.
The Salerno promenade
This is one of the most popular promenades in Italy with spectacular views across the bay of Salerno and the beginning of the Amalfi coast.
The Amalfi Coast
Vietri sul Mare, where the Amalfi coast begins, is only 4,5 km away. From there, following a 30km breath-taking winding road with mountains on the right and sheer drops over-looking the sea to the left, you will find Positano, the pearl of the coast.
National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano
The National Park has been under Unesco patronage since 1997 thanks to its sea, one of the clearest of the Mediterranean, the World’s most important archaeological sites (Velia, Paestum, Certosa di Padula) and its exceptional scenery.
Paestum
The temples of Paestum, dating back to VII sec.B.C.-IX sec.A.D., are one of the most visited archaeological sites in the world. A venture into the history of Magna Grecia not to be missed.
Pompei
The excavations at Pompei have brought to light the ruins of a city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D and are witness to the Roman age. We also recommend a trip to the nearby Basilica della Beata Vergine del Rosario (1901).
Naples
Culture (museums, churches, palaces, squares, theatres), landscapes (Vesuvius, the sea, idyllic views), culinary art (not just pizza) . This and much more can be experienced in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Caserta
The Palace of Caserta was designed by the architects Luigi e Carlo Vanvitelli in 1700s. Its splendour and magnificence (the 3km-long park, the afrescos, the 1200 rooms and 1742 windows), attract around 800,000 visitors per year. We also recommend a stroll in the old city, a medieval hamlet which, since 1960 has become part of the Italian National Monuments.
